Funerals and Friends

Yesterday Elaine and I drove to the funeral of Gerry Conklin, my brother-in-law’s mother. It was in the town where I had a weekend youth ministry during college. The day blessed me in two ways.

First, it was great to hear the Christian hope proclaimed. One memorable line came from the discussion on the resurrection body from 1 Corinthians 15. What is planted as perishable is raised imperishable. I can’t remember the exact quote, but the gist was “only if you are a Christian when ‘planted’ can you expect to ‘sprout’ to eternal life.”

The second blessing was seeing many friends from college days and the church where I served. We spent a couple of hours at the home of a couple who’s wedding Elaine and I stood in. It is so good to catch up with friends!

  1. A day going to a funeral is not always a blessing. However, yesterday was a sweet blessing, spent sharing with other Christians. Thank you to our good friends and their hospitality!
